Police Officer

The Lower Township Police Department is an organization that is regulated by the New Jersey Department of Personnel.  Open competitive job announcements are periodically posted by the Department of Personnel. The goal of recruitment activities is to attract qualified candidates for employment that will be conducive to the long term goal of employing a sworn workforce that is representative of the overall workforce in Lower Township .

Candidates must be able to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Citizen of the United States
  • Of mental and bodily health sufficient to satisfy the Board of Trustees of the Police and Fireman’s Retirement System in New Jersey that would be eligible for membership in the retirement system.
  • Able to read, write, and speak the English language well and intelligently.
  • Of good moral character and free from conviction of any crime constituting an indictable offense or any crime where offense involving moral turpitude.
  • Able to successfully pass a written exam administered by the New Jersey Department of Personnel and able to pass oral, physical and psychological  examinations as may be approved by the Township Manager and meet essential job performance requirements.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Holder of valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
  • Meets all the requirements of NJSA; 40A:14-122 to 40A:14-127.       

In addition to the above criteria, local code requires an applicant to be a Lower Township resident at the time of filing with the Department of Personnel.

 


Relief Communication Operator

The Lower Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for Relief Communication Operator. A Relief Communication Operator fills in the position of a full-time Communication Operator in their absence. A Communication Operator receives and responds to telephone or other electronic request for emergency assistance including law enforcement, fire, medical, or other emergency services. Training and certification is required and provided.
